I was holding back what this piece is about but other artists and one photographer named Ruddy Roye inspired me to share the meaning behind my work. It’s our job as artists to be brave and honest so here goes.
This piece is not about nostalgia. It’s about bad cats. As a woman, as a girl, experiences with men are curious. You encounter so many characters and some days it feels like they surround you. Navigating through them is exhausting. Who is a bad one? Are they all bad? They’re not. Some are just lazy like Garfield. Some are out right dumb like Ren. Some are fools trying to be smooth like the Pink Panther. Some are evil like Scar. You won’t find Simba here. This piece is my playful take on what’s essentially a feminist statement: We’re surrounded by people watching the every move of our pussy. The pussy watchmen. This piece is dedicated to all the girls sorting through that experience. But I wanted to have fun with it. Guess which one you’d be to the last girl you talked to.
