It's not often you can say you had a great meal at a gas station. But I can now! Well, sort of. You're thinking, OK, never mind, let me leave this crazy person's page, but don't worry. There won't be diesel in your guacamole. Take a trip to R&R Taqueria in Maryland.
R&R is the real deal. It was once a little hole in the wall, these were the words used by locals, it was a nice hole, I'm sure, in a gas station lot. But now, while the gas station location has outdoor seating and is nothing you can call a hole, there are two restaurant locations you can visit for the spiced Mexican food that will make you cry tears of pain (from the heat) and possibly joy (from the flavor).
It's not all spicy. Don't let your b*tch ass tastebuds fret. Inside there's a heavy menu, so take a look at it online and don't waste everyone's time when you arrive.
Look up when you arrive - there are various light installations that show the effort that was put into planning out this place.
Opt for the soda fountain, or try something different like a fruit flavored Mexican soda. I chose tamarind flavor.
Grab a seat after you order and your food will be brought out to you.
Order a steak and some sides if you'd like, but if you want to know what I'd go for, always choose a huarache.
This is probably the only time I can say I eat Mexican food and the corn tortilla is my favorite. It's dense, somehow not dry, and it makes the meal. I got chicken and red peppers, and spicy ones, and melted cheese and avocado on mine. It was good. But! Pay attention when you order, some of the chicken is ground chicken, some is not. And when you order something spicy, don't let your ego get to you, it will be spicy as f*ck.
Before the glow up of R&R, it was over here. You know, you'd think Guy Fieri ruins everything, but in this case, he visited this spot, and it actually made it popular enough to be able to open a sit down restaurant. Here is a look at when he visited.
I still don't know what R&R stands for and to be honest I don't care. I'd go again regardless.
